Washington, D.C. — With early voting beginning on Monday, October 6, 2014 in Kern County, Latino Victory Project President Cristóbal Alex today urged Latinos across the county to make their voices are heard on Election Day. He also reminded eligible voters who are not registered that there is still time. In Kern County, the last day to register to vote is Saturday, October 20, 2014.
“There is no question that Latino representation in elected office is not reflective of the size of our community. Latino candidates and those who share our views are at risk of losing crucial elections when voters stay home,” said Alex. “Getting registered and taking advantage of early voting is how the Latino community can affect change throughout California and in Washington.”
A 2012 Pew report notes that there are 5.9 million Hispanic eligible voters in California, making it the largest Hispanic eligible voter population nationally.
According to the County of Kern Election website, the last day to register to vote is October 20, 2014. Registration forms for voters are available at Fire Stations, Post Offices, DMV, and public libraries throughout Kern County. Eligible voters can also request one by mail by contacting the Kern County Elections Office at (661) 868-3590 or 1-800-452-8683.
