Statement on Federal Judge’s Decision to Temporarily Halt Executive Action on Immigration

(Washington, D.C.) – Yesterday, Judge Andrew Hanen of the federal district court in Brownsville, Texas issued a temporary injunction to President Obama’s executive order on immigration. Cristóbal Alex, President of the Latino Victory Project, released the following statement:

“The politically charged decision by Texas federal Judge Andrew Hanen to temporarily halt the implementation of the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA) and the expansion of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals plan (DACA) is a disappointing – but temporary –setback in the efforts to provide the opportunity to succeed for the millions of undocumented Latinos living in the United States. Judge Hanen and the state officials who originally brought this case to court are standing on the wrong side of history. As this case continues to be litigated, we are confident that this ruling will not stand.”
