Latino Victory Project Responds to Trump’s Nomination of R. Alexander Acosta for Labor Secretary

Released Feb. 16, 2017
Washington, D.C. – Cristóbal J. Alex, President of the Latino Victory Project, issued the following statement responding to President Trump’s nomination of R. Alexander Acosta for Labor Secretary:

“We won’t simply celebrate Trump for doing the bare minimum by nominating one Latino to his cabinet — especially on the day when our communities and allies are marching in the streets and boycotting Trump’s anti-Latino policies. We urge the Senate to fully vet Acosta on the issues that matter most to our community: promoting paid family leave insurance, securing equal pay for equal work – including for Latinas, higher minimum wages, workplace protections, and protecting affordable health care access for women and families.

“The American people will be watching carefully and we will continue to show up to town halls, and calling our Senators incessantly to make sure that the pro-worker, pro-union policies and vision guide whomever the next Labor Secretary. Latino Victory will continue following in the footsteps of Latino labor leaders before us and be an ally in the streets, online, and to progressive elected officials who stand with us in building Latino political power.”
