Latino Victory Project Launches Advertisements Supporting the President on Executive Action on Immigration

Hits House Republican Leadership for Failing to Pass Immigration Reform and Anti-Latino Actions

Washington, D.C. — Today, the Latino Victory Project released the first phase of a multi-state effort to raise awareness of the failure in the House of Representatives to enact immigration reform. The English and Spanish advertisements criticize the House Republican leadership for their refusal to fix the immigration system and their incendiary rhetoric against Latino immigrants. In addition to the broadcast launch, digital ads will run in Rep. Steve King’s (R-IA) district. The advertisements also welcome the President’s potential decision to use executive actionas a first step to address the broken immigration system. These ads are the first in the nation that call for supporting the President to take executive action on immigration.

“While most Americans support fixing the immigration system, the House Republican leadership has turned its back on the Latino community by refusing to propose a solution on immigration reform,” said Cristóbal Alex, President of the Latino Victory Project. “The Latino Victory Project seeks to inform Americans of the position their elected officials have taken against Latinos and their refusal to adopt policies for the betterment of our country.  We stand ready to mobilize the Latino community to achieve comprehensive immigration reform, and we welcome executive action from the President that is fair and just to the millions of immigrants currently in this country.”

The Latino Victory Project’s television and digital advertisements assert that House Republicans have taken a strong position against the Latino community and killed any possibility of immigration reform coming out of Congress in 2014. Because the House of Representatives failed to propose a solution to immigration reform, the Latino Victory Project is now turning to the President for executive action.

In Iowa, the digital advertisements highlight the failure of Congress to enact immigration reform and focus on the hateful comments made by Congressman Steve King (IA-4), calling immigrants “drug mules” and “criminals.”  The Latino Victory Project is joining leading immigrant rights group America’s Voice to partner with Iowa Dreamers and local advocates on the ground to ensure the voices of Latinos and Americans are heard.
