Latino Victory Fund Statement on Senate Confirming Amy Coney Barrett to the United States Supreme Court

Washington, D.C. – Tonight, the United States Senate confirmed Amy Coney Barrett to the United States Supreme Court. Latino Victory Fund President & CEO Nathalie Rayes issued the following statement:

“The Supreme Court is set to determine cases that will impact the lives of 60 million Latinos living in the United States. Issues that will affect millions of Latinos and Americans are all on the line, including access to health care, LGBTQ rights, and voting and immigrant rights. Barrett’s statements, judicial record, and refusal to say how she’d rule on issues that affect underrepresented communities are red flags signaling imminent danger for hard-fought civil rights. We need to call it like it is: Barrett’s confirmation puts our country’s values of tolerance, inclusion, and diversity, long-held as model beacons of democracy across the world, in the line of fire.

“With only one week left until Election Day, Senate Republicans have made it clear that their loyalties lie with the Party of Trump and not with the American people. American voters deserved to cast their ballot to choose their government before the Senate confirmed the new Supreme Court Justice, and power-hungry, pro-Trump Republicans stole this right. One way Americans can push back against the Republican’s undemocratic power grab is to exercise the constitutional right they’re trying to erode–we must vote them out.”
