Latino Victory Condemns Trump’s Propagation of Anti-Immigrant, Racist Policies Amidst COVID-19 Crisis

Washington, D.C. — Latino Victory Fund today joined countless immigration organizations and advocacy groups in condemning the Trump administration’s continued use of anti-immigrant, racist policies and rhetoric amidst the COVID-19 crisis.

The Trump administration has proposed policies it says are aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19, including blocking asylum seekers at the border and requesting funds to build quarantine centers for migrants. The administration also continued ICE raids and deportations amid city lockdowns across the country, actions that advocacy groups say will harm our community and families instead of keeping them safe and together during these trying times.

“Our country is living a moment in history that requires unity, compassion and human empathy,” said Mayra Macías, Latino Victory executive director. “Our elected officials have a responsibility to advocate for the well-being of every single person in this country, regardless of their status, race, social class, gender, and background. President Trump and his administration have gone out of their way to push their cruelty politics towards immigrants and communities of color even as we face a crisis that requires sound leadership and the kindness of reassurance.

Macías added, “Our country is facing a crisis under an incompetent, soulless president who will be remembered for failing to act swiftly and decisively to protect us. As we look to our governors, mayors, community leaders, health care providers, and service industry workers for stability, we must remember that we have the power to elect a president who will help instead of hinder—one who will serve the public instead of scapegoating immigrants.  The choices we make in the ballot box are more critical than ever. We call on our fellow Americans to elect leaders who will bring compassion, stability, and knowledge to our government and vote Trump and his Republican enablers out of office in November.”
