Latino Victory Project Applauds Confirmation of Julián Castro as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development

[WASHINGTON]—Latino Victory Project, co-founded by Henry Muñoz III and Eva Longoria, applauded the United States Senate for their swift confirmation of Mayor Julián Castro as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development today, in a 71-26 vote.

“It’s a great day when the country takes big steps towards a broader, more diverse voice in our Federal government. It’s even more meaningful when that step nurtures the next generation of Latino officials who can advocate for our community and the places where we live, learn and work,” said Henry R. Muñoz, III, Co-Founder of the Latino Victory Project. “Julián Castro is a role model for young people, especially Latinos, and yet nobody is more cognizant than he about how much more there is to accomplish. As a proud San Antonian, there’s no question I’ll miss him at home. But it’s so important for Latinos and all Americans that Julián be able to take the stellar record he’s built here in Texas to the national stage to further improve our communities. Over 50 million of us stand proudly with Julian and our President today.”

Co-founder Eva Longoria said, “Julián has a track record of success and is a fighter for the issues that Latinos care about the most. Creating Latino leadership so that the issues central to our community is reflected throughout every level of our government is what Latino Victory Project is all about and what makes America stronger. This decision invigorates the Latino community and makes us excited for the future.”

“As mayor, Julián wasn’t afraid to tackle big challenges,” said Latino Victory Project President Cristóbal Alex. “He’s made impressive, measurable progress on revitalizing the urban core of the sprawling city, making a dramatic investment in education, improving the region’s economy and the health of the population.”
