Latino Victory Fund Endorses Senator Catherine Cortez Masto

Washington, D.C. — Today, Latino Victory Fund announced that it has endorsed Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, D-NV, for reelection to the U.S. Senate in the 2022 election. The organization endorsed Cortez Masto’s 2016 historic candidacy when she became the first Latina elected to the United States Senate.

Nathalie Rayes, Latino Victory Fund President and CEO released the following statement:

“Senator Catherine Cortez Masto is the leader that Nevadans and Latinos need in the U.S. Senate. Her historic victory in 2016 was a monumental step forward in the path for equal representation in government and for Latinas in Congress. She has represented the state of Nevada with a steadfast commitment to growing its economy and increasing job creation, helping Nevadans recover from the Covid-19 pandemic, and combating climate change.

“Since day one, the Senator has been a relentless advocate for underrepresented communities and has been on the front lines calling for a pathway for citizenship for Dreamers. Now, Latino Victory Fund is prepared to step up and fight to protect the only Latina in the United States Senate.”

Senator Catherine Cortez Masto released the following statement:

“From fighting for immigration reform to overcoming the pandemic and creating new jobs in Nevada, I will always stand up for our Latino community. I am proud to have the support of Latino Victory Fund, and I look forward to continuing our work together to make a difference for the Latino community in Nevada and across the country.”

In her first term in the U.S. Senate, Cortez Masto quickly rose in the ranks on the Democratic bench through her effective legislative efforts for her Nevada constituents and her efforts to win the Democratic Senate majority as the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chair in the 2020 election.

Before being elected to the U.S. Senate in November 2016, Cortez Masto served two terms as Nevada’s attorney general. She became well known for her integrity and leadership on behalf of Nevada families, women, and seniors. Cortez Masto created a senior protection unit in the Attorney General’s office to ensure that her investigators and prosecutors had the necessary tools to pursue those who abuse, neglect, or exploit seniors in our communities.

Before she served as attorney general, Cortez Masto worked as an assistant county manager for Clark County, Nevada. She also served as a federal criminal prosecutor for the United States Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C., and was chief of staff to Governor Bob Miller. She currently resides in Las Vegas with her husband, Paul.
