Latino Victory Fund Congratulates California Congressional Slate on Primary Victories

Washington, D.C. — Latino Victory Fund congratulates its California candidate endorsement slate for their victories in the 2020 primary election. The California candidates who have moved on to the November general election are Phil Arballo, California 22nd Congressional District; Gil Cisneros, California 39th Congressional District; Georgette Gómez, California 53rd Congressional District; and Mike Levin, California 49th Congressional District.

Latino Victory Executive Director Mayra Macías issued the following statements:

Phil Arballo, California 22nd Congressional District:

“As the son of a single mother who worked his way to become the first to graduate from college, Phil Arballo knows what it’s like to start from the bottom and work his way up. As a member of Congress, he will fight to ensure that his constituents receive the same opportunities to thrive as he did. The Central Valley deserves a leader who will advocate for an economy that works for all, lower prescription drug prices, and help fix our immigration system. Central Valley voters also deserve a leader who will be there for them, not some Washington insider like Devin Nunes, who always shines for his absence. Latino Victory is proud to support Arballo, a proven leader who can galvanize the diverse coalition needed to defeat Nunes in November and finally flip California’s 22nd Congressional District blue.”

Congressman Gil Cisneros, California 49th Congressional District:

“Congressman Cisneros has spent his first term in Congress doing what he knows best — serving his community and our nation. A tireless advocate for education, veterans and immigrants, Cisneros has worked hard to secure funding for schools, expand health care access for veterans, and provide economic opportunities.  A decorated U.S. Navy veteran and philanthropist, Cisneros knows the importance of giving and serving others. He has been a tireless defender of immigrants and Dreamers from the attacks of the Trump administration. Latino Victory congratulates Cisneros on a well-deserved victory, and we will stand by him to ensure that California’s 49th Congressional District keeps this fearless leader in Congress.”

Statement on Georgette Gómez, California’s 53rd District:

“Georgette Gómez is one step closer to making history by becoming the first Latina LGBTQ elected to Congress. California’s 53rd Congressional District deserves an experienced, qualified leader who has worked hard for San Diego’s families. In Congress, Gómez will work hard to address the climate crisis, provide access to quality and affordable healthcare for all, and work to ensure San Diego receives the resources needed to improve its residents’ quality of life. Gómez stood up to Trump as San Diego City Council president, and she will stand up to Trump’s cruel policies in Congress. Latino Victory is proud to stand with a true progressive champión like Gómez.”

Statement on Mike Levin, California 49th Congressional District:

“Congressman Levin has been a tireless champion for the 49th Congressional District in Washington. Levin’s top priorities speak to his district and to our nation’s needs–combating climate change, expanding affordable health care access, working to lower higher education costs, and preventing gun violence. In 2018, Levin became one of the Democrats to flip a swing district from red to blue, and Latino Victory is proud to stand with him to ensure that he returns to Congress to continue working for his district and our nation.”
