Communications Director
Latino Victory Project (LVP) is an ambitious, progressive organization that works to build political power so that the values and voices of Latinos are reflected at every level of government and in the policies that drive our country forward. LVP does this by developing leaders for public office while building a permanent base of Latino donors to support them, working with partners to shape public policy that reflects the growing influence of the Latino community while also building cross-constituency alliances that can move the country forward.
 

Position Description

The Director of Communications will support Latino Victory’s programmatic work and help advance the visibility and following of the organization through communications and outreach. This position will support the Communications department in managing press relations, messaging through social media outlets, and written and spoken output around advocacy, in addition to managing surrogates and coordination on events.

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:

• Help organize communications efforts, supporting strategy for increasing visibility of the organization and developing relationships with media outlets

• Provide support for external communications, including op-eds, statements, and social media in English and Spanish

• Develop relevant talking points for public appearances, interviews and press calls

• Write remarks and speeches for organization principals and surrogates

• Build and maintain reporter and booker relationships for the organization

• Provide staffing and on-the-ground support for press events

• Ensure consistency of message, look, and feel of all communications

• Help develop creative and innovative campaigns to mobilize Latinos

• Create digital content for Twitter, Facebook and other social media as needed

• Represent, as needed, the organization with key stakeholders and influencers

Language proficency:

• Spanish language proficiency

Political Director

Position Description

The Latino Victory Project is looking for an experienced Political Director to oversee campaign work related to candidates including recruitment and training. The Political Director will be responsible for developing strategy for independent expenditures and other uncoordinated activities in select races across the country.

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:

• Oversee candidate-related work; manage vetting process for endorsements, making recommendations for endorsements to the Board of Directors

• Develop comprehensive independent expenditure program recommendations and ensure effective implementation of the program

• Construct budgets and timelines with detailed strategic objectives and associated budgets in accordance with available resources

• Where legally appropriate, provide assistance in developing electoral strategies for endorsed candidates and voter engagement

• Leverage relationships with key allies, including on the Hill, and forge organizational partnerships to broaden our impact and work on candidates

• Oversee comprehensive advanced leadership program and ensure effective implementation of the program in multiple jurisdictions

• Serve as trainer for relevant portions of the training

• Help recruit participants for the candidate trainings and gatherings

• Support fundraising efforts to advance programs; assist in meetings with potential donors, partners and stakeholders

• Provide input on statements, talking points and other written communications in coordination with the communications team

• Represent Latino Victory in key tables, coalitions and meetings with outside organizations

• Keep Executive Director informed of political affairs, Congressional activity and relevant Latino issues and news

• Build and manage relationships with Congress and Washington stakeholders

Skills and Qualifications:

• At least three years of experience organizing and managing campaigns

• Successful experience with advocacy and political communications

• Strong understanding of government and the Democratic party

• Excellent strategic, analytical, written, and oral communication skills including presentations

• Valued and Non-Essential Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability

• Spanish language proficency preferred

• Ability to exercise a high level of judgment and to manage multi-faceted campaigns and sensitive political situations

• Ability to work well and creatively under multiple priorities and tight deadlines in a team environment and independently

SUMMER 2020 SPECIAL PROJECTS VIRTUAL INTERN
Latino Victory Project (LVP) is an ambitious, progressive organization that works to build political power so that the values and voices of Latinos are reflected at every level of government and in the policies that drive our country forward. LVP does this by developing leaders for public office while building a permanent base of Latino donors to support them, working with partners to shape public policy that reflects the growing influence of the Latino community while also building cross-constituency alliances that can move the country forward.
 

Position Description
The Latino Victory Project is currently looking for a paid summer intern for special projects. The intern will work in a fast-paced environment, learning about political and advocacy campaigns, federal and state political structures, and supporting elections. The intern will have many opportunities to attend relevant virtual talks, briefings, panels, and conferences representing Latino Victory. All summer 2020 internships will be entirely virtual.

Responsibilities will include:

    • Political and demographic research regarding campaigns affecting Latino populations
    • Digital Media and graphic design content creation for Facebook, Twitter, and other mediums
    • Writing projects on issues such as immigration reform, environment, education, access to jobs and others
    • Communications projects e.g. drafting press statements, op-eds and collecting clips of the day
    • Development support, including donor research and logistical assistance with public and private events
    • Administrative duties as needed

Qualifications:

  • Ideal position for current college or graduate students
  • Photoshop skills a plus
  • Spanish language skills preferred
