Deputy Political Director

Position Description

Latino Victory Project is looking for a Deputy Political Director to work out of the southwest and western U.S. to help build out our state-based recruitment and campaign initiative in emerging Latino battleground states. The Deputy Political Director will report to the National Political Director and be responsible for carrying out recruitment and training to help build the bench of Latino candidates for 2018, 2020 and beyond. This person will help develop strategy, support independent expenditures and other activities in select races. As Latino Victory builds out the first state chapters in Arizona, Nevada, Georgia and Florida, the Deputy Political Director will support state chapter leadership and serve as a liaison between the state efforts and the Washington HQ. There will be substantial travel required. Position location is flexible.

Essential Responsibilities:

The Deputy Political Director’s responsibilities fall into three categories: candidate work; state chapters; and campaigns.

Candidate Work:

  • Using metrics developed by the National Political Director, recuit viable candidates for select races in target states
  • Submit candidates for the vetting process and provide background for recommendations of endorsements to the Board of Directors
  • Provide on-the-ground support for candidates

Campaigns/IE Work:

  • Where legally appropriate, provide assistance in developing electoral strategies for endorsed candidates and voter engagement
  • Assist National Political Director with independent expenditure program recommendations and ensure effective implementation of the program
  • Help to construct budgets and timelines for campaigns strategies in accordance with available resources

State Chapters:

  • Coordinate with Latino Victory chapters in Nevada and Arizona; support chapter leadership
  • With our national staff, build a volunteer base to help with on-the-ground campaign work
  • Serve as trainer for candidate trainings
  • Help recruit participants for candidate trainings and events
  • Support fundraising efforts to advance programs; assist in meetings with potential donors, partners and stakeholders as needed
  • Represent Latino Victory in key tables, coalitions and meetings with outside organizations as needed
  • Manage partnerships with key allies, organizations and elected officials

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of state and local politics in the region
  • At least 3 years campaign experience
  • Successful experience with advocacy and political communications
  • Strong understanding of government and the Democratic Party
  • Excellent strategic, analytical, written, and oral communication skills including presentations
  • Spanish language preferred

Finance Associate

Position Summary

Latino Victory Project is seeking a Finance Associate. Qualified candidate will be a self-starting, motivated person with at least one cycle of electoral or organizational fundraising experience. This role will support fundraising efforts across the organization, including database management, events planning and logistics and major gift prospecting and growth with the ability to develop and nurture relationships with key donors.

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Support the Senior Development Advisor on a comprehensive and integrated fundraising program and ensure effective implementation of the program day to day including;
  • Executing call time and follow up
  • Organizing and assisting with the pledge chasing program
  • Researching donors and prospects to continuously grow the pipeline and base
  • Assist with event planning, logistics, execution and follow up
  • Preparing briefings and staff meetings and events as necessary
  • Managing the thank you note process
  • Managing the donor database
  • Managing the Board and National Committee calendar and communications
  • Compile or develop proposal materials with the Senior Development Advisor and President to submit to granting or other funding organizations
  • Direct or supervise volunteers and interns as necessary

Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability

  • Ideal candidates will have the ability to work in a fast past environment, multi-task, juggle multiple priorities and to work under tight deadlines.
  • This person will be extremely organized with a close attention to detail.
  • Past campaign fundraising experience and experience with Microsoft Excel and NGP is preferred.

Special Projects Intern

Position Description

The Latino Victory Project is currently looking for an intern for special projects. The intern will work in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities will include:

– Political and demographic research regarding campaigns affecting Latino populations

– Digital Media and graphic design content creation for newsletters, Facebook, Twitter, and other mediums

– Writing projects on issues such as immigration reform, environment, education, access to jobs and others

– Communications projects e.g. clips of the day and research for press statements

– Donor support, including proposal writing and editing, and logistical assistance with public and private events

– Administrative duties as needed

Qualifications:

– Ideal position for current college or graduate students

– Digital media skills a plus

– Spanish/English language skills preferred
